Your Children on Facebook? This is a must read

Category : Facebook

Even after 15 years in child protection, I was shocked by what I encountered when I spent just five minutes on Facebook posing as a 14-year-old girl. Within 90 seconds, a middle-aged man wanted to perform a sex act in front of me.

I was deluged by strangers asking stomach-churning questions about my sexual experience. I was pressured to meet men with whom I’d never before communicated.

So I wasn’t surprised that a vulnerable teenager, Ashleigh Hall, was groomed on Facebook before being brutally raped and killed.

Are you scared of Google

One Sydney web development professional, who did not want to be named because he does business with Google, says: “People are very scared of it.

If you’re not listed in Google, you’re f—ed. But they keep changing the ground rules.” Google regularly updates its secret search algorithm, which can dramatically affect a site’s ranking, but says its searches are not rigged and sponsored links are clearly marked.

Thought this was an interesting comment.  I suppose I am not scared of Google as such, but when they do change their ground rules, it makes life difficult.

One of my sites was receiving, on average 800 visitors per day.  Since one of these Google changes took place, I am now flat out getting 100 visitors to the site.

Of course less visitors less adsense revenue.

HUMAN brains can only remember up to 150 meaningful relationships, despite the huge amount of Facebook friends some people can gather.

Robin Dunbar, professor of evolutionary anthropology at Oxford University, says that this number has been the same throughout history and among different societies.

“The interesting thing is that you can have 1500 friends (online) but when you actually look at traffic on sites, you see people maintain the same inner circle of around 150 people that we observe in the real world,” Prof Dunbar told the Times Online.

Last year, Facebook’s in-house research scientist Cameron Marlow told The Economist he found that Facebook users only actively communicate with a few of their online friends.

Category : Making Money Online

Every now and then I head back to my account with Commission Monster to see if I can make a few dollars through advertising various products.

But everytime I do, I get quite disappointed with the results

In one week my sites had over 17,000 impressions, 6 clicks but no sales.

So I have to ask the question, is Commission Monster really worth the effort.  Maybe people just dont buy products over the net.

Dont know what the answer is.

Several of the patches affect Windows 7, the software maker’s new operating system which will be officially unveiled next week but has been widely used in test versions.

Such an early sign of security issues on Windows 7 is potentially worrying for Microsoft, which is hoping its new operating system will erase ill-feeling among many customers who bought the predecessor Vista.
